This accession includes some of Nicholas Holmes' correspondence with Eugene Sledge, dating from 1978 until shortly before Sledge's death in 2001. Most of the letters are from Sledge to Holmes, and discuss Sledge's book With the Old Breed and other World War II writings. Also included in the collection are newspaper clippings on Sledge's life and writings and book reviews With the Old Breed.
