Scope and Contents
This accession contains papers, correspondence, drafts, outlines, photographs, newspaper clippings, magazines, articles, tapes, slides, drawings, and a few miscellaneous items. Much of this material provides details about Sledge's book With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa and its use in creating the HBO miniseries The Pacific and the Ken Burns film The War. Additionally, this accession includes drafts of portions of Sledge's secod book China Marine. Other topics include the Marines and Sledge's family history, particularly the Sturdivant side of his family. Much of the correspondence and articles in this accession were created after Sledge's death. These items were made or collected by his wife, Mrs. Jeanne Sledge, with their two sons being contributors as well.
