Sledge and Sturdivant family correspondence, 1842 - 1900
Scope and Contents
This accession contains some of Eugene B. Sledge's correspondence during the war years, before his deployment to the combat zone in the Pacific, as well as from his life after the war. There is also a good deal of the family correspondence of Sledge's parents and other relatives, some dating as far back as the Civil War. The accession also includes some correspondence of Sledge's son, John Sledge, mostly relating to his father's affairs. Newspaper clippings and magazine articles on Sledge's life make up a major part of the collection. Finally, there is considerable material relating to the publication of China Marine, including manuscripts of the book, business correspondence and contracts relating to its publication and movie rights, and information on royalties.
