Biographical / Historical
The Athletic Department of Auburn University was organized in 1890 as the Athletic Advisory Board. Inter-collegiate sports teams were formed in 1891 and 1892. In 1921, the first physical education instructor was hired by the college to assist in managing sports programs. The first athletic director was appointed in 1930.
