Letters are a result of attempts by Samuel Colman to collect back pay for his son, William Dean Colman, who was killed in battle in October of 1862. Payment was made in May of 1864. Also contains a formal visiting card, genealogical data on the Shattuck family and a photo of William Shattuck.
