From the Collection:

This collection consists of correspondence to and from John J. Miller documenting his imprisonment at Johnson's Island, Ohio and military duties at Richmond, Virginia. Includes letters from his father James Miller and brother William J. Miller in St. Louis, and Mary Elizabeth Burd, later his wife, from Oakland, Missouri. Also contains photographs of Miller and his wife, an 1860 officer's commission from the State of Tennessee (Western Military Academy), and a short biography of Miller.
