Correspondence , 1947 - 2009
Scope and Contents
The main component of this Accession is an unpublished manuscript of an unfinished book written by John Harwell, and edited by two of his friends, Washington D.C. lawyer Richard L. Wyatt, Jr., and Auburn University English professor Ward S. Allen. It contains Harwell's philosophical reflections on, and critiques of, Western thought from an Eastern Orthodox perspective, focusing on science, history, literature, and theology. Also included in the collection is Harwell's correspondence, most of it with Wyatt and Vanderbilt University English Professor Harold L. Weatherby, dealing with Harwell's book, philosophical reflections, and life in the Orthodox monastery. There is also some correspodence between Wyatt and Allen, dealing with editing of Harwell's book after his death.
