This small collection contains prospectus, flyers, plate map, deeds, and cover letters (1898) from the Alabama Vineyard and Winery Co., represented by land agent George S. Bowen of Chicago, to William Goldberg and J.H. Wyatt, both of Chicago, for farms and lots in Vinemont, Cullman County, Alabama.

Biographical / Historical

The real estate company of George S. Bowen & Son, organized and marketed in Chicago, Illinois, advertised vineyards and fruit farms near Vinemont, Cullman County, Alabama. Vinemont was established on the highest point of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The company planned to build a winery and cannery and guaranteed to purchase a percentage of the farmers' fruit and grape crops. The company failed and the town's name was changed to South Vinemont in 1961.
