The maps of the Agricultural Conservation resulted from a project of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. The program worked in cooperation with the Agricultural Extension Service to document farms in a number of Alabama counties. Different counties in Alabama were surveyed through aerial photography, and the resulting photographs were traced by farm, producing the maps. The maps are labeled by land owner and operator. William Randolph, Auburn alum, directed the state program, and later went on to become the Southern Regional Director of the AAA as well as the president of the Alabama Farm Bureau.
