Biographical / Historical
The Auburn University Theatre is Alabama's oldest university stage company. The “Footlights,” Auburn University’s first stage company, began in 1913 but failed to endure the First World War. In 1919, the “Auburn Players” revived the university stage company and developed the original social club into the Auburn University Theatre Department. Since that time the department has grown into an integral part of the university community, with an accent on professionalism in instruction and performance. In 2021, the department was renamed the Department of Theatre and Dance.
