Templeton Family Papers
Scope and Contents
Consists of correspondence (1900-1932) between members of the Templeton family of Camp Hill, Alabama. Includes letters to and from Fred A. Templeton, who was stationed at Camp Gordon near Atlanta, Georgia from December of 1917 to January of 1918; correspondence with the War and Treasury Departments regarding Templeton's death from the measles and insurance benefits to the family; and legal papers and correspondence regarding the Templetons' farm from 1882 to 1930.

Biographical / Historical
The James Abner Templeton (1851-1931) family resided and farmed near Camp Hill, Alabama during the later part of the 19th century and early part of the 20th century. Frederick A. Templeton was the son of James and Lula Herron (1874-1934) born on August 24, 1894. He was a private in the 21st Company, Casual Detachment, 157th Depot Brigade at Camp Gordon (Atlanta, Georgia) in December of 1917 and January of 1918. While stationed at Camp Gordon, Private Templeton contracted the measles and died on January 15, 1918. His body was interred at the Camp Hill Cemetery in Tallapoosa, Alabama. Abner Cortez Templeton was his older brother (1891-1928), Euna V. (1887 - 1935) and Cleo V. (1885 - 1954) were Frederick's older sisters. All were buried in the family plot at Camp Hill Cemetery.
