The Alabama Association of Women in Education was founded in 1942 as the Alabama Association of Women Deans and Advisers, to enhance the professional status and effectiveness of deans and councelors. The name was changed to Alabama Association of Women Deans, Administrators, and Councelors in 1974. The current name has been used since 1991.
