Biographical / Historical
The purpose of the Rifle Team is to "promote the sport of rifle marksmanship and to represent the University in riflery compensation." * Membership is from the student body and includes individuals who also serve on the Army ROTC rifle team. The team is coached by an officer from the Army ROTC detachment on campus. The team is divided into three units on the basis of competition. These units, in order, are: Auburn-War Eagle; Auburn-Blue; and Auburn-Orange. In association with the Army ROTC unit the AU Rifle Team hosts the annual War Eagle Invitational Rifle Meet which draws competition from other ROTC detachments throughout the state. In Addition, the AU Rifle Team competes in intracollegiate riflery. *Rifle Team, "Tiger Club". Auburn: Auburn University, 1977, p. 63.
