This collection contains correspondence, financial records, research notes, and digital records pertaining to the project "This Goodly Land: Alabama's Literary Landscape." Also included are documents, photos, and items related to both the personal and professional life of Mildred "Midge" Coates.

Biographical / Historical
Mildred "Midge" Coates earned her PhD in chemistry and worked for twelve years at Occidental Chemical Cororation Technology Center in New York before attending library school at State University of New York in Buffalo. She graduated in 2003 with her MLS degree before moving to Auburn, Alabama to work at Auburn University. Midge remained employed at AU until her retirement in 2020. During her time at AU, she volunteered with the Encyclopedia of Alabama and managed "This Goodly Land," Alabama's online literary map. Midge also served as AU's Digital Projects Librarian, assisting with The Cornerstone Project and ContentDM.
