Judge James Noel Baker Papers
Scope and Contents
Contains newspaper articles concerning Judge Baker, a 1936 student loan note, various pictures - including shts taken of Franklin Roosevelt by Baker's father, class photos from the University of Alabama, a photo of Baker being sworn in - a list of deceased members of the Auburn class of 1940, as well as certificates Baker recieved over his life. The latter include diplomas from the University of Oregon and the Univeristy of Alabama, bar admissions certificates for both Alabama and Federal courts, and a Scottish Rite certificate.

Biographical / Historical
James Noel Baker was born on February 18, 1916. He graduated in 1942 from the University of Oregon with a bachelor of science. During WW II, he served in the US Navy as a member of the 123rd Seabees. In 1949 Baker graduated from the University of Alabama's law school. He served as Assistant Attorney General for the Stae of Alabama from 195-1959. During the 1970s he was a municipal judge for both Opelika and Auburn, and was a district judge in Lee County from 1980 to 1988. Baker also served as a Judge of the Lee County Juvenile Court. Baker died February 8, 1997.
