Bondurant married Clifford LeRoy Hare in 1903 at her family plantation, Variety Shade. The couple met ten years prior in Auburn, during Alexander Bondurant's tenure as professor at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Auburn University) from 1892 to 1895. Cliff and Dabney Hare had six children: Emily, Catherine, Dabney, Susan, Joseph, and Clifford Leroy, who died at age two. Their home was located on Gay Street in Auburn, Alabama.
