Scope and Contents
The collection consists of an array of materials regarding the maternal and paternal ancestry of Alta Helen MacIntosh Bearman, including several articles and letters concerning her Uncle Waldo McIntosh, Chief Dode of the Creek Indians. It also contains information on various Clans, such as the MacIntosh, Wallace, Chaltan, and Gilmour Clans.

Biographical / Historical
Alta McIntosh Bearman’s father was the grandson of Daniel Newman McIntosh, son of “Chief” William McIntosh. Bearman’s mother was the granddaughter of Guy Waterman and Alzora Stratton of Tennessee. Born in Oklahoma in 1916, Alta entered the Navy during World War II. After the war, she worked in Europe where she married Leornard Charles Bearman; they have one daughter, Linda. Bearman has served as Secretary and Program Chairman of the “Clans of Scotland, USA” and as President of Clan MacIntosh of North America. Proud of her Scottish and Indian background, Bearman has traveled extensively pursuing information pertaining to her heritage.
