Charles Tellechea (1929-2015), a native of Cuba, worked for a commercial airline in that country. After Fidel Castro came to power, he defected to the United States. He was one of several Cuban pilots trained to fly American aircraft by members of the Alabama Air National Guard, under contract with the Central Intelligence Agency, to provide air cover for the Bay of Pigs invasion in April 1961. As part of Brigade 2506, he served as the Maintenance and Supply Chief and C-46 Captain for the Brigade’s Air Wing. In 1967, he became a U.S. citizen and eventually became Chief Pilot for Nautilus Industries.
