Mabel Crocheron Papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of clippings, correspondence, maps, newsletters, notes, official documents, pamphlets, a passport, picture postcards, programs, souvenirs, and miscellaneous materials relating to Ms. Crocheron's mission to Europe following the First World War. It also contains earlier correspondence from H. P. Crocheron, dating from 1875 to 1893.

Biographical / Historical
Mabel Preston Crocheron was born in Gadsden, Alabama, in 1887. Prior to the First World War, she attended Agnes Scott College. In October 1918, the National War Council of the Young Men's Christian Association accepted Crocheron for service. She arrived in Le Havre, France, in November 1918, and served under the direction of the Y.M.C.A. until July 1919. She was appointed as Alabama's first woman county probation officer in 1920.
