Collection contains article and book manuscripts (1944-2009); professional, personal and general correspondence (1955-2010); taped interviews and performances (ca. 1989) for an Alabama Public Television program on Windham; photographs and notes for articles and books, including ghost stories; programs and announcements (1974-2011) for speaking engagements, storytelling festivals, and books; biographical information; clippings (1883-2010), including scrapbooks of Windham's newspaper columns and articles; and calendars and planning books (1981-2003); and awards and honors received by Windham.

Alabama native and former journalist. Author of fifteen books. Nationally known for her oral storytelling and recognized as an authority on southern folklore and ghost stories. Founding member of National Association for the Preservation and Perpetuation of Storytelling.
