Biographical / Historical
W. Kelly Mosley (1902-2001) graduated from the electrical engineering program of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in 1924. He worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company, based in Atlanta, until his 1963 retirement. From 1963-1965 he served as president of the Auburn University Alumni Association. He sponsored various awards and lecturships at Auburn, including the Franklin Lecture Series, the W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Lectures, and the W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Award.
The W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Awards Program at Auburn University annually recognizes ten to fifteen Alabamians for their contributions to the natural environment in the state. The award frequently recognizes people who put land and waterways to productive uses such as environmentally sensitive timber production, hunting, and fishing. The award was established in 1979 and the first awards were presented in 1980.
