The Alabama Crop Improvement Association (ACIA) first met in 1942, and officially established its constitution and by-laws in 1945. The purpose of the organization is to encourage production, protection, and use of improved farm varieties of crops in Alabama. These crops are to be bred and tested for genetic purity by the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station at Auburn University. The ACIA was responsible for seed certification in Alabama until 1995, when the responsibility was transfered to the Southern Seed Certification Association. The ACIA remains as a non-profit agricultural association.
