Biographical / Historical
Maria Luisa Marti-Cady (March 18, 1913-January 23, 2009) was an Auburn/Opelika resident who came to America in the early1960’s after the Cuban Revolution when Fidel Castro overthrew Cuba in 1959. Ms. Cady’s first marriage ended after she came to the United States. She later remarried an American man named Cady. She also outlived him and lived to the age of ninety-six. When Ms. Cady was in her late eighties, she wrote/typed a four- hundred plus page novel titled “Tres Mujeres en el Paraiso” (Three Women in Paradise). She attempted to have it published, but was told it was too long. It is written entirely in Spanish. The manuscripts were donated by Dr. Catherine Perricone, who acquired them from Ms. Cady’s son Jorge, after Ms. Cady’s death.
