Scope and Contents

This collection consists of fifty-eight color transparencies and color prints made in 1994 and 1999 from Gosse's works in the British Museum. These document Alabama's moths, butterflies, caterpillers, dragonflies, mantises, crickets, beetles, and various plants.

Biographical / Historical

Gosse sketched and hand-colored the drawings in 1838 while he briefly lived in Alabama. These drawings are only a small part of the 233 sketches contained in his unpublished Entonologia Alabamensis which is in the British Museum in London, England.
