Scope and Contents

This accession contains documents and audio recordings that were used by Marianne M. Moates Weber as a reference to write and edit her book, A Bridge of Childhood: Truman Capote’s Southern Years (1996). The audio was recorded by Capote’s cousin, Jennings Faulk Carter (1928-2012), especially for Moates’s writing project and details Carter’s memories of Capote and their family as well as interactions with their mutual friend, Nelle Harper Lee.

Biographical Sketch

Marianne Merrill Moates Weber (1942-) was born in Andalusia, Alabama. She received her B.S. in Education from the University of Alabama Birmingham in 1975 and pursued her graduate studies at the University of Alabama and Samford University. She has been a member and/or president of the Alabama Writers’ Conclave, National State Poetry Society, Writing Today, Alabama Academy of Distinguished Authors, and Magic City Writers. Her publications include A Summer’s Sadness (1968) and A Bridge of Childhood: Truman Capote’s Southern Years (1996).
