Biographical / Historical

Selma University was founded as the Alabama Baptist Normal and Theological School in 1878 to train African Americans in education and the ministry. (Encyclopedia of Alabama) The "One Hundred Thousand Dollar Drive" was a fund raising effort launched in 1919 and led by Robert T. Pollard, president of the university.
