Holtville School Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials collected by people associated with Holtville School. Items include a scrapbook, a supplements monograph, three VHS tapes made by U.S. Cultural and Information Program (State Dept.), and a book with transcript of the film and photocopies of documents dealing with the school. This collection also includes a biography on Archie Charles Allen Sr., letters and correspondence, a certificate, fliers, financial records including bills, receipts, and two ledgers, information on committees, school attendance, and graduation exercises.

Biographical / Historical
In the 1930s and 1940s, Holtville School, in rural Elmore County, Alabama, became well known for its progressive curriculum under Principal James Chrietzberg. In addition to traditional subjects, this curriculum emphasized practical and vocational education, including education in farming techniques, machine and automobile repair, printing, and cooking. The school’s machine shop, automobile repair shop, and printing press provided services to the Holtville community.
