This collection consists of correspondence, field journals, photographs, photographic slides, publications, papers from Julian and Rosemary Dusi related to their orinthological work, conference programs and presentation notes, magazine articles, newspaper clippings, and artifacts related to the lives and careers of Julian and Rosemary Dusi.

Biographical / Historical

Julian Dusi was born on November 10, 1920, in Columbus, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree in Wildlife Conservation from Ohio State University in 1943. He entered the United States Army Air Corps that same year and served as a high altitude photo reconnaissance pilot during World War II. Having earned his PhD at Ohio State University in 1949, Dusi accepted a temporary teaching position in the Department of Zoology-Entomology at Alabama Polytechnic (Auburn University), an appointment that turned into a forty-five year career at Auburn. Rosemary Dusi was born in Charleston, West Virginia, in 1917. She attended school in Charleston, married Julian in 1947, and worked at Auburn University until her retirement in 1987. The Dusi’s enjoyed a lifelong career engaging in bird and mammal research in Alabama and throughout the world. Both were involved in numerous publications and helped to establish, edit, and publish Alabama Birdlife: The Journal of the Alabama Ornithological Society. Julian Dusi retired from Auburn University in 1993 and died in 2012.
