Biographical / Historical

Robert L. "Bob" Faust was born in New Orleans, LA, in 1932. He studied architecture at Tulane University for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma to study under the tutelage of Bruce Goff, head of the Department of Architecture. After graduating in 1956, Faust served for two years in the U.S. Navy before returning to work for Goff as a construction manager on several projects along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He then moved back to New Orleans where he worked for Beldon Concrete Projects, Albert Ledner and Associates, and Leonard Spangenberg and Associates. In 1964, Faust accepted a teaching position at Iowa State University in Ames. While there, he met and married his wife, Sherry. In 1968, he began teaching architectural design at Auburn University, a job he held until his retirement as Professor Emeritus in 2012. His architectural work included places of worship and conference facilities, as well as commercial and residential buildings. Although teaching was his primary job, Faust also started his own business, Corrugated of Alabama, and designed and built unique townhouses in Auburn. Faust's architectural designs have earned international recognition. He was a life-long member of Friends of Kebyar, and in January of 2020, his student work was included in an exhibit at the University of Oklahoma, “Renegades: Bruce Goff and The American School of Architecture.”
