This collection contains documents and photographs related to the 1978 dedication of Auburn University's James E. Greene Hall-notably a copy of the speech given by Congressman Bill Nichols at the event; Dr. Greene's personal papers concerning AU's vet med school from 1968-1970 with a brief historical review of the school's history up until that point; personal photographs and slides; a CD-ROM of scanned family recipes; and a Kodak Carousel Transvue 140 slide tray.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. James E. Greene (1911-1977) was born in Columbus, Georgia, and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in 1933. A World War II vet, Greene served in various leadership roles at Auburn University before being appointed as the fourth Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Under his administration, a new school was constructed and student enrollment increased by over 45%. A strong supporter of organized veterinary medicine, Dean Greene was a national leader in the early efforts of the American Veterinary Medical Association to standardize quality professional education. He was an influential member of both state and national organizations and was awarded the American Veterinary Medical Association Award in 1975 in recognition of his service to the profession.
