Biographical / Historical
Lafayette (L.F.) Lanier Jr. (October 12, 1934 - August 2, 2018) was born in Chambers County, Alabama and graduated from Valley High School in 1953 and Auburn University in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. While at Auburn, L.F. played baseball and helped lead the team to a 1958 SEC championship. He was a four-year letterman, named ALL-SEC in 1958, and served as team captain.
After leaving Auburn, L.F. signed a professional baseball conteract with the Cleveland Indians and played farm clubs. He also served in the United States military. After a baseball injury, he returned home and worked for West Point Pepperell until 1989 and retired from Russell Corporation. He attended numerous AU alumni baseball get-together's and reunions.
