This collection consists of correspondence from James Ambrose Doss to his wife Sarah Elizabeth Brake Doss and family. Included are transcriptions of the letters.

Biographical / Historical

Ambrose Doss was born in 1823. In 1846, he married Sarah Brake in Jefferson County Alabama. The two had eight children. In 1861, Doss joined Company C, 19th Alabama as a sergeant. He was killed on July 6, 1864, while he was participating in fighting near Kennesaw in Cobb County.
