Biographical / Historical
A Zine, also known as fanzine, is a self-published work of text and images usually produced by a photocopier. Zines were originally created by sci-fi enthusiasts in the early twentieth-century as a forum for dialogue, free from corporate editors or publishers. As a freeform project, fanzines became a centerpiece for freedom of thought, sharing ones thoughts or ideas, fanfiction, “do-it-yourself”, comics, music, etc. Zine-making to this day remains a cornerstone for marginalized voices who want to share their ideas and information about things they love.
This collection was donated by Associate Professor Derek Ross from Auburn University, Department of English, May, 2019. These zines were produced for the course ENGL 7030, Studies in Technical and Professional Communication, focused on the study of research and writing for special purposes and novel situations.
