Biographical / Historical

Michael Thomas Fullan was a student, assistant, and faculty member at Auburn University around the turn of the century. As a student, he earned a B.S. in 1896, and a M.E. in 1899. While still an assistant, he founded the Auburn Band and led it from 1897 to 1905. Fullan was known as "Auburn's John Phillip Sousa." In addition to the band, he instructed classes from 1897 to 1933. He taught mechanical design and machine drawing. As an engineer, he was sought-after and delivered lectures throughout the Southeast. He was even reputed to have worked with the Wright brothers during one of their visits in 1907.
