Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents related to Gerber's involvement in the Auburn University Faculty Senate, along with the recording and transcript of an oral history interview conducted with Professor Gerber in 2008. The topic of the interview was university governance at Auburn and the faculty relationship with the administration and trustees. Also included are portraits of American historical figures, photographs of United States President Dwight Eisenhower and his Vice President, Richard Nixon, as well as an engraving of Eisenhower.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Larry Gerber is an emeritus professor of history. He retired from Auburn University in 2008. He arrived in Auburn in 1983 after teaching at the University of Maryland (European Division), the University of Arizona, and Brown University. He received his Ph.D. in history (as well as his B.A. and M.A. degrees) from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1979. Gerber had a long history of involvement in Auburn University governance, Auburn's chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), and in the AAUP's national organization. He is the author of two books covering American Labor history. He was born in Los Angeles in 1947 and is an avid collector of oriental rugs, owning hundreds.
