Biographical / Historical

Rufus King commanded Wisconsin's "Iron Brigade" during the Civil War and later rose to division commander. In 1863, he was appointed United States minister to Rome. While in Italy, he was involved in the apprehension of John Harrison Surratt, who had been implicated in the conspiracy to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln.
