Biographical / Historical

Carey Milton Owen (1948- ) is a Vietnam Veteran and Auburn University alum. He grew up in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, and served in the Vietnam War as a medic with the 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne. He received numerous military awards, including the Bronze Star and Silver Star, for his role during the Battle of Hamburger Hill. Owen went through basic training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia, and completed his medic training at Fort Sam Houston... in San Antonio, Texas. He spent a short time at the 94th Evacuation Hospital in Fort Lewis, Washington, before being sent to Vietnam. After returning home, Owen attended Auburn University where he earned a degree in Sociology. From 1974 until his retirement in 2014, he served in various administrative roles, including CEO, with the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
