This collection contains several account books associated with the McClendon family plantation at Cottonton, Russell County, and a series of letters and plans to restore economic viability to the farm operations in 1949.

Biographical / Historical
The McLendon family operated a plantation from the 1870s to the 1940s, at which time the impact of wage scales, shortage of labor, and World War II altered the acre crop/tenant mode of agriculture in the south. The McLendon family house is discussed in the book "Silent in the Land".
