Scope and Contents

This collection consists of preliminary drafts of General Gayle's history of the Peleliu campaign during WWII and were intended for use in the official US Marine Corps history. These drafts contain ideas and opinions not included in the official published history.

Biographical / Historical

General Gayle spent a career in the U.S. Marine Corps which included service in WWII in the Peleliu Campaign and in the Korean War. This service also included staff and command positions. General Gayle retired in 1968.
