Biographical / Historical

When Walter Pope Givhan was born on 25 April 1867, in Perry, Alabama; his father, Anderson Holmes Givhan, was 23, and his mother, Virginia "Jennie" Carolina Pope, was 19. Givhan married Betty Chapman Coates on October 8, 1891. Walter Givhan was an Alabama Senator and member of the Alabama State Sovereignty Commission against racial integration in schools.
