This collection includes a folder of clippings, proclamations, speeches, press releases, and correspondence from the 1st Annual Founders Day Celebration. This event celebrated the founding of the East Alabama Male College.

Biographical / Historical
East Alabama Male College, sponsored by the Methodist Episcopal Church, was chartered in May 1856. Classes opened in 1859 in Auburn, Alabama, but the college closed during the Civil War. The college reopened in 1866 and became a land-grant university in 1872. The university also changed its name to the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. The college was known as the Alabama Polytechnic Institute from 1899 to 1960, when it became Auburn University.
