Scope and Contents
This collection contains photocopied research materials for the book "William Bartram, the Search for Nature's Design: Selected Art, Letters, and Unpublished Writings", a collection (published in 2010) of unpublished writings by the eighteenth-century American naturalist and traveler, edited by Thomas Hallock and Nancy Hoffman. Included are extensive transcriptions and photocopies of Bartram's unpublished writings, research notes, and research correspondence.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas Hallock received his B.A. in Spanish and English from Dickinson College in 1987, and his Ph.D. in English from New York University in 1995. He taught English at Valdosta State University and the University of Mississippi, among other places, before taking his current post as Associate Professor of English at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. He is also president of the Bartram Trail Conference. He is the author of “From the Fallen Tree: Frontier Narratives”, “Environmental Politics and the Roots of a National Literature”, 1749-1826. He also co-edited two books, “Early Modern Ecostudies: From the Florentine Codex to Shakespeare”; and “William Bartram, the Search for Nature’s Design: Selected Art, letters, and Unpublished Writings”.
