Scope and Contents

This collection contains coorespondence, minutes, resolutions and papers of the Regional Advisory Group of the Alabama Regional Medical Program (1969-1972). The papers were presented at the Governor's Health Manpower Confrence on January 6-7, 1972 on the Alabama Health Care Commission health delivery systems, health education and manpower recruitments. These records do not completly document the organization, but include general information 1969-1972. The collection has been divided into 3 series: Correspondence, Minutes, Health Manpower Confrence. They have been arranged chronologicly and alphabetically by topic thereafter.

Biographical / Historical

The Alabama Regional Program is an organization established for the purpose of implementing in the Alabama Region the provisions of Public Law 89-239, the Heart of Disease, Cancer, and Stroke Amendments of the 1965 (hereinafter called the Act). These bylaws are in conformity with the Act, with regulations published by the Surgeon General pursuant to the Act, and with Guidlines issued by the Division of Regional Medical Programs, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Article I. Name and Address Section 1. A. The name of the organization shall be the Alabama Regional Medical Program (hereinafter called the Program). B. The principle offices of the Program shall be located at (1917 Fifth Avenue, South)[1108 56. 20th Street.], Birmingham, Alabama (35233)[35205] Article II. Objectives and Methods Section 1. The purposes of the Program shall be as stated in Section 900 of the Act, as follows: (a) Through grants, to encourage and assist in the establishment of regional cooperative arrangements amoung medical schools, research institutions, and hospitals for research and training (including continuing education) and for related demonstrations of patient care in the fields of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and related diseases. (b) To afford to the medical profession and the medical institutions of the Region, through such cooperative arrangements, the opportunity of making available to their patients the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases; and {End}
