Edward C. Marty Papers

Edward Chamberlain Marty was a native of Mobile, Alabama and son of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Marty. In 1926, he was admitted to the Auburn Polytechnic Institute for Architecture. He was awarded his Bachelor of Architecture degree on May 19, 1931 and a Master of Architecture on June 1, 1942. In 1939, he became an instructor of Architecture at A.P.I. and remained a member of the Auburn faculty until 1972 when he retired as Professor Emeritus. Marty served as Associate Professor of Architecture from 1950 to 1957 and as Professor of Building Technology from 1957 to 1972. Additionally, he served on many academic committees and was an active member of the American Institute of Architects, Alabama Chapter, where he served as Preservation Officer for Alabama. In this capacity, he was involved with the Historic American Buildings Inventory. He directed student design and creation of two historic Alabama models: one of the state capital of Cahaba and one of Fort Conde. He was also involved in the preparation of measured drawings and photographs for the Historic American Buildings Inventory.
