Biographical / Historical
Alan K. Abner grew up on a farm in Oregon. He joined the Army Air Corps after the United States entered World War II. He trained at Sheppard Field in Texas, and then at Dale Marby Field in Florida. Then Abner joined the 357th Fighter Group in Leiston, England where he flew the P-51 Mustang. As a member of the 363rd fighter squadron, Abner flew fifty combat missions in Europe in 1944-1945.
