He saw Odus with big Papa (H.L. Lowe), who appeared very feeble. He assures John that his father still loves him and not to be afraid to ask his father for help.

This letter may not have ever been sent. It was written in response to a newspaper notice by a lady and asks for an early response. His own name is erased, and J.E. Smith is substituted. At this date, he is still married to Lizzie Thompson, who died in childbirth on December 11, 1894.

She gives details about herself. She married at 20 and has been a widow for 13 years. She has no children, owns no property, and is a postmaster.

This folder contains a photocopy of the typed letters listed and summarized above. In addition, there is considerable genealogical information compiled by the donor, Mrs. Catherine Lowe Barks. It includes a listing of the principle characters mentioned in the letters and genealogical charts and details of the Lowe family.

He describes a meeting in Columbus the day before at which four lots of land were drawn up. The land allocated to John. H. Lowe is described as very good. He is urged to come soon and have deeds drawn up to finalize disposition of his father's estate.
