Five scrapbooks compiled by the historians of the Admiral Semmes Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (Auburn, Alabama. Included are newspaper and magazine articles and pictures of the Civil War, soldiers, offiers, etc. Antebellum homes, historical sites, addresses, programs, motto, membership.

James Simpson Alexander Papers

This collection contains photocopied legal papers and correspondence of the James S. Alexander family, including nine Civil War letters from Alexander to his wife, Frances Jane Alexander (1863-1864). Alexander, a South Carolina farmer, served in the 22nd infantry division. Also includes genealogical information.

William C. Alexander Letters

Contains two photocopied letters written by William C. Alexander -- from Newton, Illinois -- to a friend, E.S. Brown, in Kentucky. The letters are dated September 18, 1865 and October 9, 1865. Also included is one photocopied letter from Mammie Plummer to Miss Mary Rutland dated December 8, 1882.

The letters discuss daily activities and mention family and friends in Kentucky and Illinois.

John M. Bancroft Diary

The diary outlines several major battles, including Manassas, the Peninsula, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and others. Bancroft also descrides his time serving in the balloon corps, providing sketches of the balloons and his camp. The diary also includes postwar material, including newspaper articles, correspondence, photos of reunions and other materials the detail the lives of northern soldiers after the war. Also included are photos of Bancroft's gear.

Benjamin Benner Diary

Scope and Contents Memoir of Benner's Civil War service plus a photograph of Mr. and Mrs. Benner in old age. Benner’s diary is actually a narrative hand-written summary of his military service form May 14, 1861. It does not consist of daily or other periodic entries, and this account is not dated. Very likely it was written long after the war. The inside cover and first page are quite browned, compared to the rest of the text, which indicates it was displayed that way for a long period, inserted into the diary...
