The Alabama Pharmacy Assocation (originally the Alabama Pharmaceutical Association) was established August 11, 1881 in Birmingham. It was officially chartered under state law in 1884. At that time a legislative committee was formed which championed legislation, passed in 1887, to regulate pharmacies in Alabama.

Lela I. Legare Collection
This collection contains correspondence, pamphlets, convention programs, papers delivered at meetings of the Alabama Pharmaceutical Association and the Birmingham and Montgomery Retail Druggists Associations. Also includes newspaper clippings concerning national pharmacy issues and Legare's framed certificate of registration to practice pharmacy.
Lawrence C. Lewis Papers
Consists of correspondence, speeches and circulars relating to Lawrence C. Lewis and his activities in the National Boards of Pharmacy and the Alabama Pharmaceutical Association.
Joseph G. Nixon Papers
Scrapbook (disassembled) contains Nixon's general correspondence (1941-1947); articles on the Alabama Pharmaceutical Association (1936-1944), and general pharmacy (1932-1942, 1962); meeting programs from APA and National Association of Retail Druggists (1934-1955). Collection also contains prescriptions from his Mobile pharmacy (1931-1932).
