This accession contains a letter from Miles. Writing to his parents, Miles describes his experiences serving with Hilliard's Legion during the Civil War. He describes being shelled, leading cavalry to capture enemy troops and material, and meeting with old friends. He also criticizes the Confederate retreat from Kentucky.
