Scope and Contents

This accession includes a diary written by Achsah Eugenia Scott. It begins in 1860, when she would have been approximately 16 years old, and ends in 1868, the year that records indicate she married a William Marcellus Boswell. The diary covers the years of the Civil War and includes such topics as church attendance; various local marriages and illnesses; school day experiences; and general daily activities. A magic lantern show is discussed, as well as going to a Daguerreian room. Achsah also relates her feelings on marriage, the war, and her "dreaming of the future". Mathmatical equations and poems are written on the the last few pages of the diary. A typed transcription of the diary is also included.
